Lisa Katharina has a Masters Degree in Education. For fifteen years, she taught art in the classroom and at The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Barnes Foundation. She worked at The PMA as a Museum Educator, and a Facilitator in the museum’s Teacher Resource Center, where she assisted classroom teachers with incorporating art into curriculum development across diverse subject areas. For several years, she studied painting under award winning pastel artist, Carol Kardon at The Main Line Art Center. Additionally, she studied Children’s Book Illustration at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She began painting and illustrating consistently in 2015, and showing her work the following year.

Her work has been exhibited in juried shows at the historic Philadelphia Sketch Club and staff shows at The Philadelphia Museum of Art. In 2022, Lisa Katharina relocated to the Delaware beach area with her husband and two dogs. Her art is constantly evolving, as she enjoys learning new techniques and combining artistic styles. She has exhibited in the Cutting Edge, abstract show (2024) and the Modern Bouquets, group exhibit (2025) at Peninsula Gallery in Lewes, DE. She creates in her home studio, and can typically be found walking her dogs, with paint splatter on her shoes.

“It may sound trite but when I paint, I want the artwork to radiate a colorful joy. I judge my work by asking the question,  Could I wake up to this piece every day and feel happy?  Life is filled with unexpected turns. It can inflict a heavy heart on even the strongest of souls. If my artwork can serve as an intentional distraction, a meditation on happiness, then it was worthwhile. I want your cells to smile.” 

She has created custom commissions for private clients and for licensed retail products and home decor at Pier1, Matilda Jane Clothing, Wayfair and Houzz. For nearly a decade, she donated custom artwork to Living Beyond Breast Cancer for fundraising purposes. Reproductions of her work are available at Art.com.
